Movie Review: Tenet

By: Maxwell Lehmann (10th)

Tenet is a film directed by Christopher Nolan and stars John David Washington and Robert Pattinson. The film came out during Covid and therefore hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves. Thankfully, I was lucky enough to have recently watched it. The movie follows a soldier, only referred to as “the protagonist” who fights through time to stop the world from ending. The film starts out following the protagonist as he gets captured after a failed mission and takes a suicide pill. However, it was all a test and he is armed with one word, “Tenet”. He then meets with the other main character, Neil, who shoots a gun, but the bullet travels from a wall back into the gun. It is explained that it is not time travel, but a reversal of entropy in which time moves backward. Special items and machines are required to make things that have their entropy reversed and it is the protagonist’s job to find out who is doing this and stop them.

I thought that the movie was quite complicated and hard to follow. Despite this, it is one of my favorites and adds an exciting twist on time travel, and is unique. While it is a complicated movie, it doesn’t leave you frustrated and confused, rather it makes you want to rewatch it. I highly recommend this movie, especially to those who liked Inception and Shutter Island.
